Field guide / Flexibility

Demand can be a planning variable.

Understand the energy, cost and operating limits behind moving a load in time.

Define what can actually move

Some consumption is deferrable, some can be supplied by storage and some cannot move without disrupting a process. Specify the MW, duration, recovery window and owner of the operational constraint. A generic percentage of site demand is only a screening assumption.

Restore the full energy balance

When energy is shifted through storage, losses mean the restoration energy exceeds the avoided peak energy. When a workload is rescheduled, its real power profile may also change. Our calculator uses a stated effective shifting efficiency to make this assumption visible, without modelling equipment.

Price the two windows

A price spread can create an energy-cost opportunity. Demand charges, network fees, constraints, degradation, service payments and capital costs can change the outcome. The tool intentionally separates its simplified energy-cost result from a complete project case.

Connect flexibility to the grid conversation

GE Vernova’s distribution platform includes DER management. Schneider Electric’s energy intelligence materials discuss bringing electricity supply, demand and operations together. Our independent planning question is how a site can document a constrained, measurable flexibility offer before entering technical or commercial review. [G2, S2]
