From announcement to evaluation

Three signals shaping the conversation.

These observations describe published material. Related exercises are our independent interpretation.

The next three to five years

A direction to evaluate.

The following outlook is editorial interpretation, not a company commitment or forecast.

2027–2028 / Integration

Less fragmented context

The product direction points toward connecting planning, operations and asset information. A useful next step is testing whether a pilot can work with the systems and data already in place.

2028–2029 / Evidence

From a trial to repeatable evaluation

As pilots mature, comparable baselines and traceable decisions could become more valuable. Repeatability, operating ownership and cost visibility belong in the evaluation from the start.

2029–2031 / Coordination

More actors around the same constraint

Distributed resources and changing demand may increase the need for coordination. Our original proposition is a shared preparation framework that helps different teams document the same decision boundary.

Reading maturity carefully

Pilot, trial and deployment are different stages.

The IEA’s September 2026 electricity-network chart uses a weighted maturity measure based on operator survey responses.

A survey adoption score is not the percentage of networks deploying a tool. We link to the original method rather than reproducing a chart without its underlying values.

A better question

What was tested, under which conditions, and what evidence supports the next step?
